3A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Urbana of Frederick county scored a jumper at the end of the first quarter to take a 22-20 lead. They went on a nice run to open up a 31-24 lead in the second quarter only to see Milford Mill storm back and take a 35-33 lead in just a few minutes. Not to be outdone they made a small run of their own and capped it off with another buzzer beater, this time a layup as time expired, to take a 37-35 lead into the half. Junior Kendall Bresee was huge for Urbana in the half scoring 19 points. Dionna White scored 15 in the first half for Milford. The second half played out the exact same way. It turned out to be a classic barn burner with both teams making mini runs. Kendall Bresee scored 28 timely points and kept Urbana in reach while Dionna White poured in 25 points to lead Milford. Deja McKenzie was the difference as she scored 23 points on a bunch of clutch baskets to keep Milford close when Urbana threatened to pull away. Dionna White and Ri'on Lee made some clutch fouls shots down the stretch to allow the Millers to repeat as 3A champions 74-70.
1A CHAMPIONSHIP
FORESTVILLE MILITARY ACADEMY 54, SOUTHERN GARRETT 38
Forestville used pressure and speed to break open a close game in the second half. After leading 8-7 after one quarter and 17-16 at halftime, the Knights found some breathing room in the 3rd. They outscored Southern 22-11 in this critical stretch and that was all the room they needed. Their defensive pressure forced Southern into 25 turnovers for the game while they only turned it over 8 times. That proved to be the difference in the game as Forestville never allowed Southern to get within reach in the final quarter. Tyasia Moore scored 20 points for Forestville while Kamrin Weimer paced Southern with 12.
4A CHAMPIONSHIP
ELEANORE ROOSEVELT 70, PAINT BRANCH 42
PG county's best, Eleanore Roosevelt, matched up with Montgomery's county's best, Paint Branch for the 4A title. The first quarter was a back and forth action filled quarter with Kaila Charles scoring 10 for Roosevelt to help them stake out a 19-15 lead. Roosevelt clamped down on defense in the second quarter and held Paint Branch scoreless for the final 5:43 enroute to a 34-20 lead. Paint Branch missed a bunch of easy shots that they normally make and that trend continued into the 3rd quarter. Paint Branch struggled through a total of over ten minutes of game time without scoring until Autumn Ashe made a 3. By then the damage was done as Roosevelt had opened up a 46-24 lead. It was cruise control the rest of the way as Kaila Charles finished with 28 points and sophomore Octavia Wilson added 13. The final score was 70-42. Dasia Harris scored 15 for Paint Branch.
2A CHAMPIONSHIP
PATTERSON MILL 56, OAKDALE 44
Oakdale of Frederick county jumped out to an 8-2 lead early in the game until Chyna Latimer got the Patterson Mill Huskies of Harford county untracked. She scored three straight times to give her team a 9-8 lead that they built to a 15-9 advantage after the first quarter. The Huskies continued to hound the Bears and forced them into 9 first half turnovers and held them a paltry 6-26 from the field in the half. Patterson Mill took a 28-16 lead into the break.
Oakdale immediately cut the lead to 6 in the first three minutes of the third before senior Qalea Ismail answered with a 5-0 run of her own to push it to 33-22. Patterson Mill continued to fend off every Oakdale attack thanks to Ismail and Latimer who consistently scored big baskets in the fourth. The Huskies made it back to back titles by the final score of 56-44 with Ismail scoring 26 points and Chyna Latimer adding 18.

3A
Milford Mill 61, Poly 46.
The most anticipated game of the day was this matchup between two of the Baltimore area's perennial contenders, county champion Milford Mill and city champion Poly. Both teams featured seniors who are D1 recruits trying to finish their high school careers in style. Milford star Dionna White is headed to Georgetown while Aneah Young of Poly is headed to James Madison. Both teams started slowly with some early turnovers, but Milford was able to seize the momentum late in the quarter and take a 15-10 lead. The Millers found their rhythm in the second as White got some fast break buckets off steals. Milford took the momentum and a 34-21 lead into the halftime break. The second was more of the same with Poly struggling to make shots and dealing with foul trouble. Deja McKenzie made some timely shots and finished the game with 13 points and 7 rebounds. White scored 24 points and had 5 steals while Kierra Jackson grabbed 12 rebounds. Aneah Young had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Poly. Milford will face Urbana on Saturday night.
Milford Mill senior Deja McKenzie scored 13 points
Urbana 67, Westlake 60.
Urbana rallied from a 9 point deficit late in the second quarter to tie the game at 34 apiece at halftime. Westlake had methodically built their lead by out rebounding Urbana and getting extra possesions. Westlake held a 32-23 lead with 2:11 left in the half, but went into the half tied at 34 thanks to a late run fueled by Regan Lohr of Urbana. The game had nine lead changes but Urbana won the 4th quarter by 11 as Westlake ran out of gas. Lohr finished with 27 points. Kendall Bresee added 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Senior Briana Hardee scored 23 for Westlake and Nialla Curtis added 10.
Regan Lohr scored 27 points for Urbana.
Paint Branch 70, Old Mill 48.
Dasia Harris was not to be outdone. Playing right behind Eleanor Roosevelt and Kaila Charles who scored 33 points, Ms. Harris took the floor and did her thing as well. The speedy and explosive guard poured in 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead her team into the 4A championship game against Roosevelt on Saturday. Old Mill did not go quietly. Sophomore Alayshia Dailey's 15 points, and Rebecca Lee's 11 points and 16 rebounds were enough to keep it close most of the way. The score was 49-41 late in the 3rd quarter when junior Autumn Ashe nailed a three pointer at the buzzer. She opened the 4th quarter with another three that pushed the lead to 55-41 and that seemed to deflate Old Mill. Paint Branch cruised in the 4th en route to the 70-48 win.
Junior Autumn Ashe scored 16 points to help Paint Branch advance.
4A
Eleanor Roosevelt 48 Walt Whitman 30.
Montgomery county's Walt Whitman came in looking to knock off last year's 4A champions, Eleanor Roosevelt. Whitman proved to be a worthy contender but Kaila Charles was not going to be denied a chance to play for another championship. The junior forward scored a game high 33 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help the Raiders fend off the scrappy Vikings. Roosevelt took a 23-19 lead into the halftime break and answered every second half run by Whitman. Hannah Niles scored 14 points for Whitman.

2A
Patterson Mill 60, Western Tech 44.
Patterson Mill raced out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and used that cushion to hold off a late rally by Western Tech. Western Tech won the second and third quarters 12-8 and 14-9, and had the lead down to 48-43 with 1:55 to go in the game. Patterson Mill's stand out senior Qalea Ismail (Princeton) had just fouled out and the Western Tech crowd smelled an opportunity. Those hopes were quickly dashed when Chyna Latimer converted two free throws for the Huskies and Sam Herman and Kayla Mitchell stole the next two inbound passes. Western Tech scored only one more point as Patterson Mill advanced 60-44. They will meet Oakdale on Saturday for the 2A championship. Chyna Latimer and Qalea Ismail scored 16 each for the Huskies while freshman Kayla Spruill lead Tech with 19 points.
Oakdale 57 Oakland Mills 35

Oakland Mills settled down in the second half but it was too late as the Frederick county powerhouse was in cruise control by then. Christi Labella scored 20 points and Cameron Pitts added 10 points and 19 rebounds for the winners. Ny'Jayah Lockwood scored 11 points for Oakland Mills.
Oakdale's Christi Labella.

Forest Park guards Makelle Randolph (13 points) and Tiffany Rice (11 points) kept it interesting for a while by scoring in spurts, but it was not enough to prolong their season. Forest Park finishes their season with a 23-1 record as Southern moves on to the 1A championship game on Saturday. Kambrie Bosley added 14 points for Southern.
